The city of Akure is one of the commercial capitals in Nigeria. It has a high traffic density and industrially,it is gradually growing. Some metals are reported to have some beneficial functions to the body, some are extremely dangerous to human health causing permanent brain damage, hypertension, unpaired hearing, itai-itai disease, osteomalacia just to mention a few. The levels of trace metals were determined using a Perkin Elmer model 306 atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The mean value (mg/kg of trace metals in the samples for Zn was 27.1, while Cu,Cd,Co,As,Cr,Pb and Fe were below detection limits. This observation was similar to results obtained for other wines. It is however, suggested that palm wine samples should be regularly monitored to avoid the consumption of trace heavy metals.
