Renewability through bioenergy and bioproducts | |||
| Producing fuels and products through microbial fermentations is a practice that has been industrialized for many decades. There is now an increasing momentum to expand these markets as direct result of increased petroleum costs, green house gas emissions, and concerns about oil reservoirs. Can improved technologies with genetic engineering of microorganisms, fermentation design, product recovery, and end-use really decrease our dependence on oil? This session looks at several excellent examples of how technology has brought us one step closer to achieving these goals. | |||
