Heteroaromatic compounds are important scaffolds for the preparation of biologically active and other important materials. Regioselective C-H activations of furan and thiophene to yield complexes of the type TpRu(CO)(NCMe)(Ar) (Ar = 2-furyl, 2-thienyl; Tp = hydrido(tris)pyrazolylborate) have been achieved. The catalytic conversion of furan or thiophene with ethylene to 2-ethylfuran or 2-ethylthiophene, respectively, has been observed at elevated temperatures. The reaction of TpRu(CO)(NCMe)(Me) with pyrrole yields TpRu(CO)(k2-N, N-(H)N=C(CH3)-NC4H3) and potential reaction pathways will be discussed.
