This work demonstrates that it is possible to observe signal from self-assembled monolayers using a low end commercial IR-Microscope. Variations in the spectroscopic signal are observed as the position sampled on the surface changes, using a spot size of about 20 µm. These results indicate that monolayers often exhibit inhomogeneity at this resolution. Results obtained using thiols on gold and other self-assembling systems will be presented.
