The ability of a liquid to wet a given surface is determined in part by the morphology of that surface. Using sparsely microstructured chemically homogeneous surfaces textured using photolithography, we examine the dependance of advancing and receding contact angles to surface structure density. Experimental results are interpreted using a mechanical energy balance.
