Chemical concepts and principles are at the heart of the ways we perceive the world around us, but our students often do not appreciate these connections. A Wisconsin Initiative for Science Literacy project is underway to collect, develop, test, and publish demonstrations that will help to connect chemistry with what we receive via our senses. The demonstrations will be accompanied by background material of sufficient depth to put them in a context of chemical principles and also their relationship to one another. We have begun with the sense of sight and will share with you where we are, provide some examples, and hope you will provide us your response to what we have done and propose to do.
