Carbohydrate Chemistry (CARB)
Glycoconjugates in Disease
Carbohydrates found on cell surface glycolipids and glycoproteins can serve as receptors for a number of viruses, bacteria and bacterial toxins while those associated with the pathogen may function as antigenic determinants. Talks in this session will range from synthesis of a specific carbohydrate antigen, to identification of the role of a carbohydrate in the infectious process, to their potential uses.
