Convenient and regioselective iodination of various activated aromatic compounds in mild conditions in the presence of ionic liquid at room temperature

Jong Chan Lee and Myung gun Son. Chung-Ang university, Seoul, South Korea

Aromatic halogenated compounds have been used as very important chemicals or intermediates in organic synthesis. Due to these reasons, many methods were developed but most of them needed harsh conditions. In contrast with already reported methods, our methods have a lot of advantages : We used ionic liquid as a green solvent, could have good yields in mild conditions such as room temperature and short reaction time, respectively, and extracted products easily.  We utilize iodine as a source of I+ and PTSA/NaNO3 catalyzes selective para iodination. Particularly, ionic liquid helps whole reaction be proceeded more efficiently.
