Recent advances in technology associated with lecture delivery have changed the environment in the classroom. In each of these advances, instructor-student interaction and topic delivery is allowed to increase. A new advance, internet delivered audio and video, falls into this category. These methods, known as podcasting and vodcasting, show remarkable potential as tools to deliver content to students outside the classroom. In fact, they are deliverable to students anywhere the internet reaches, and allow the instructor to further the goals of the course. However, their use is a two-edged sword. The advantages and disadvantages of podcasting in the general chemistry setting will be discussed from the viewpoint of both the student and the instructor.
