Pt(II) & Ni(II) Complexes on the Edge of Naphthalene & Perylene

Robert Robinson Jr., University of Missouri at Columbia, Columbia, MO and Paul R. Sharp, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO.

A series of aromatic organometallic complexes were synthesized by reacting 1,8-dibromo-2,7-diisopropyloxynaphthalene & 3-bromoperylene with M(PEt3)4 [M = Pt, Pd]. Furthermore, complexes were formed by reacting 1,8-dilithio-2,7-diisopropyloxynaphthalene & 3-lithioperylene with the inorganic reagents: cis-PtCl2(PEt3)2, PdCl2(PEt3)2, cis-NiCl2(dppe) [dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphine)ethane] and NiCl2(depe) [depe = 1,2-bis(diethylphosphine)ethane].
