Consulting in the Commercialization of New Chemical Technology

Joseph V. Porcelli, JVP International, Inc., Staten Island, NY

The speaker, Dr. Joseph V. Porcelli, started JVP International, Inc., a Subchapter S Corporation, in January 2001, after having stepped down as President and CEO of Scientific Design Company, Inc.

Joe worked for SDCI and its former parent company, Halcon International, for most of his 40-year career in industry. He spent the first half of his career in process and catalyst development, working on improving existing catalytic chemical processes and developing new ones, before going into the management side of the business.

Joe will describe his experiences in starting and building a consulting practice. A typical retainer with his former employer eased the transition but also provided some obstacles. Joe followed many paths in trying to develop clients, and will share those approaches that worked and those that didn't. Finally, he will describe some interesting projects that he has worked on that benefited from his lifetime career in the development and commercialization of new chemical processes and catalysts, and have contributed to the success of the business.
