Fast, easy chemistry in water

Nicholas Leadbeater, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT

Microwave heating offers a rapid efficient alternative to conventional oil-bath technology. This lecture will present recent work undertaken in our laboratories focused at microwave-promotion of C-C bond forming reactions in water. Attention will be focused on Suzuki and Heck coupling reactions using sub-ppm levels of palladium catalysts. Attempts to scale-up the chemistry will also be discussed.
