Pyranopyrazoles (1a-h) have been synthesized starting from N-substituted pyrazolones or from dehydroacetic acid. These syntheses will be presented. The photochemistry of two of these pyranopyrazoles is also being studied. Irradiation of 1a or 1d at 254 nm in ethanol led to the formation of 2a or 2b respectively. The mechanism for these reactions will be presented.
