This presentation is part of: The Chemical Heritage Program: What is it and How Can Local Sections Participate?

National Historic Chemical Landmarks

Judah B. Ginsberg, American Chemical Society, Washington, DC

The National Historic Chemical Landmarks program was started by the ACS in 1992 to recognize seminal achievements in the history of chemistry. The program's mission is twofold: to increase pride among practitioners of chemistry and to enable the public to see the contributions of chemistry to modern life. The presentation will discuss criteria for designating landmarks, the nomination process, the role of local sections and/or technical divisions, and the designation ceremony.
