Experimental and theoretical studies on naturally occurring biologically active compounds such as curcumin, galangin, quercetin will be presented. The synthesis and characterization of some metal complexes will be described. DFT methods are used to determine the mechanism for the antioxidant activity of these compounds. Structural information on these compounds leads us to conclude that the intermolecular interactions of these compounds play an important role in the antioxidant behavior.
