The talk will focus on the reactivity of nine-atom deltahedral clusters of germanium, also known as deltahedral Zintl ions, towards various main-group and transition metal compounds. Discussed at length will be the redox chemistry of these species and their ability to form oligomers, polymers, and functionalized derivatives. The geometries of the clusters and their bonding and electronic structures will be also described.
