Preparation of Stellane Derivatives by Anionic Cyclization

The behavior of the vinyllithium derived from 1a or 1b has been investigated in an attempt to accomplish a triple, round-trip anionic cyclization cascade to deliver the stellane (i.e., tricyclo[3.3.0.03,7octane) ring system. The results of these studies will be discussed.
