XRD Characterization of the thermal decomposition products of ammonium metatungstate

Joel B. Christian, OSRAM SYLVANIA, Towanda, PA

The thermal decomposition products of commercial Ammonium Metatungstate (OSRAM SYLVANIA, Catalyst Grade AMT) have been characterized before and after thermal treatment ranging from 80°C to 700°C. Three representative atmospheres were used, Argon, Hydrogen, and Air, representing neutral, reducing, and oxidizing atmospheres. Color changes and thermal gravimetric analysis are also discussed. The thermal decomposition of Ammonium Metatungstate is a common process in the manufacture of hydrocracking and de-NOx catalysts.
