Layered Metal Oxides Synthesis, Characterization, and Catalysis

Steven L. Suib, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT

This talk will focus on the preparation, characterization, and catalytic applications of porous layered transition metal oxides. Systems to be discussed include manganese oxides, although iron oxides, layered double hydroxides, cobalt oxides, and other metal oxides. Some unique synthesis methods including sol gel, precipitation, and phase transfer syntheses will be mentioned. Characterization of these systems has been accomplished with various methods to determine physical and chemical properties of these materials. Several applications are possible including selective catalytic oxidations, high capacity battery materials, and as adsorbents.
