Asymmetric Catalysis Inspired by Natural Product Synthesis

Shawn K. Collins, Université de Montréal, Montréal, QC, Canada

The synthesis of the carbon skeleton of the planar chiral natural product longithorone C has been accomplished utilizing novel 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorophenyl benzyl auxiliaries that help enable macrocyclization. In order to effect asymmetric macrocyclization reactions, the development of chiral Ru-based olefin metathesis catalysts that are highly reactive and enantioselective was initiated.
