Due to the National Security act, certain reagents are becoming more difficult to obtain. AIBN,used as an initiator in a polymerization of styrene experiment in organic chemistry lab at Siena College is one of these reagents. Acne cream containing 10% benzoyl peroxide was used in its place. The polymerization was successful. The experimental results comparing the amount of acne cream used and the molecular weight of the resulting polymers will be discussed.
