Chemistry on the Internet. A Revolution In Chemical Information

Martin A. Walker, State University of New York, Potsdam, NY

The internet is transforming the way we find information, and chemical information is part of that revolution. Initially we simply saw a switch from paper to electronic formats, but now we are beginning to see a new paradigm emerge that where information is designed for the internet. This presentation will talk about some of the changes that are happening: Open access, user generated content, mashups, virtual reality and more. Some of these models will fade, but others will flourish, as we build a worldwide community of chemists with a world of information at their fingertips.
