Chemical Biology I
The term "chemical biology" encompasses any of the various sub-disciplines that arise when the scientific questions, hypotheses, and techniques of the chemical sciences interface with those of molecular and cellular biology. Bio-organic chemists have historically been the chemists most likely to see their research as part of the chemical-biology enterprise, but this will soon change: the rise of biological nanotechnology and the interdisciplinary "-omic" sciences, as well as the ever-increasing importance of biological spectroscopy, have made it crystal clear that the future of the chemistry/biology interface will be critically shaped by scientists trained in all of the chemical disciplines.

The symposium features:
Small-molecule and nano-scale probes for studying cellular biology
Macromolecule/small-molecule interactions
Design and engineering of novel proteins, nucleic-acids, and carbohydrates
Natural-product biosynthesis and biosynthetic-pathway engineering
Chemical genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics
