Fluorescent Chemosensors for Biologically Important Metal Ions

Kyle Gee, Molecular Probes Invitrogen Detection Technologies, Eugene, OR

Fluorescent probes are powerful tools to detect and quantify biologically important metal ions such as calcium, zinc, sodium, and lead. The design and synthesis of some of these probes will be described. Also discussed will be their applications in living cells, accompanied by appropriate images, along with descriptions of novel uses of these probes for detection of other physiologically relevant analytes such as phosphopeptides and phosphoproteins.
