Fluorous modifications to Re(I) catalyzed photo-reduction of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide

Byron L. Bennett, Brandon Clapp, Nathan Williams, and Mike Moody. University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NV

The photo reduction of CO2 to CO utilizing light (λ > 400nm) with a second-generation fluorinated Re(I) [(L)Re(CO)3Cl where L = 4,4'((CH2)3CnF2n+1)-2,2'-Bipyridine; n=1, 6, 8] catalyst was investigated. TON and TOF were determined utilizing a GC method for original conditions (DMF, TEOA) and compared to experiments featuring a flourous co-solvent [perfluoromethylcyclohexane (PFMCH)]. Results are compared with earlier experimentation of DMF/PFMCH, TEOA conditions and literature results.
