Organic materials with light-harvesting and light-emitting properties have attracted much interest in recent years. Particular interests have been placed on the field of organic photovoltaics and organic diodes. Organic and organometallic materials have the potential of being incorporated as semiconductor components that are lightweight, flexible, and tunable at the molecular level. We have prepared several organic and organometallic highly conjugated arene compounds which may be incorporated into optoelectric devices. In this presentation, the preparation and optical characterization of these materials will be discussed.
