Are Textbooks an Endangered Species?

H. Eugene LeMay Jr., University of Nevada, Reno, Reno, NV

The ways in which textbooks and associated teaching materials evolve depends on technological, economic, and social factors. Computers and the internet have already had a great influence on how we manage and present our courses. What new technologies have been used to the greatest benefit to enhance teaching and learning, and what is on the horizon? Ultimately, what is the future of textbooks themselves in an increasingly digitized world? We will examine these questions in the context of the general habits and behaviors of our current students.
