The synthesis of NHC ligands fused to rigid aromatic frames is in progress. These NHC ligands will also bear pendant pyridyl moieties. This arrangement promotes the assembly of coinage metals into extended one-dimensional polymers, which are highly luminescent. The rigid aromatic frame will serve as a platform for supramolecular recognition and interaction. The emission properties of these polymers will be investigated.
