A strategy for the synthesis of the first polymeric helicenes, which involves Suzuki polycondensation (SPC) and ring-closing metathesis (RCM) of pendant propenyl groups on a phenylene backbone, has been developed. The AB-type monomer can be prepared in six steps starting from m-xylene. Details of the synthesis and characterization are presented.
