Murat TURKYILMAZ, Fatma GENC, and H.R. Ferhat KARABULUT. Trakya University, Edirne, Turkey

Schiff base complex compounds have taken a wide place in coordination chemistry and have important role in development of inorganic chemistry, biochemistry and environment chemistry. These types of complexes with transition and heavy metals are used in organic synthesis, analytical reagent, metal ion catalyst and medicine1,2. The aim of this study is the synthesis of 2-[(bicyclo(2,2,1)-hept-5-en-2-ylmethylene)-amino]phenol schiff-base with some transition metals (zinc, copper, nickel). Bicyclo(2,2,1)-hept-5-en-2-carboxialdehyde compound was obtained by using Diels-Alder method 3,4. Two methods were applied for the synthesis of schiff base complex. The imine was obtained then attached metal. The second method was the template method5,6,7. In this method, complex compounds were obtained via interaction of aldehyde with 2-hydroxy aniline and Zn, Cu, Ni acetates.

The synthesis and the properties of compounds were studied. Spectroscopic methods NMR and IR showed the possible structure of schiff base complexes.
