Volatile and semi-volatile constituents of essential oils obtained from the leaves and flowers of purple sage, a common plant of the shrub-steppe habitat in the Columbia Basin, were determined by GC/MS. Oils obtained from steam distillation of the leaves showed some interesting differences from that obtained from the flowers. Relative concentrations of the common compounds in leaf and flower oils also varied significantly between plants collected at the beginning and at the end of the blooming season.
