Synthesis and X-ray structural investigations have been carried out for the title salt C15H13IN2O. It was found that compound forms two types of crystals (prisms and needles that have been grown together in one pot from ethanol). Both polymorphs crystallize in the triclinic space group P-1, but have different crystal packing. Cations have Z-geometry about the ethylene bridge which links the heterocyclic and aromatic rings. Intermolecular H-bonds O-H…I link cations and anions in the crystals.
