Fuel Chemistry (FUEL)
Energy of the future--Alternative energy sources (FUEL)
SERMACS 2006 recognizes the impact of the world’s depleting oil reserves on the U.S.’s social and economic well-being. In order to overcome this tremendous hurdle, alternative forms of energy need to be pursued. President Bush recently identified several focus areas in his 2006 State of the Union address where he outlined the FY07 Advanced Energy Initiative. Several focus areas included: clean coal technologies, Solar America Initiative, wind energy research, bio-based transportation fuels , hydrogen fuel cells and nuclear technology. The aim of the symposium is to educate the general public on the regional research that is on-going to support alternative energy supplies and the Federal policy making that will effect how the technology is implemented. With additional knowledge, the general public will be able to make informed, educated decisions about accepting and supporting advanced technologies.
