Nanographenes are fascinating building blocks for carbon materials. We examine their chemical reactivity and magnetic properties with first principles density functional theory calculations. Ribbons, belts, and patches are investigated. We show that unique π-electronic states due to zigzag edges dictate chemical and magnetic properties of these nanographene building blocks.
