Starting and Operationg a Co-op Program in Chemistry | |||
| This professional, interactive training workshop is designed as an introduction to experiential education for the "newcomers," chemistry faculty, departmental administrators, and employers. For this workshop, the term co-op is used to mean paraprofessional, off campus and practical experiences that are integrated into the student's curriculum. Ideally, the experience is part of the "course work" that can be presented for graduation requirements. The workshop will cover definitions; advantages and disadvantages; organizational structures and operating plans; and obstacles to starting and operating a co-op program. Other topics will include: coordinator's role; educator/employer relationship; student selection, recruitment, placement and training; matching students with company needs; finding the right partners; evaluating individual and program performance; and much more! |
