Using tri-ethyl phosphate as a phosphate source, the hydrothermal reaction of cobalt(II) oxalate di-hydrate, zinc oxide using organic diamine produced open framework structures with varying channel sizes depending on the organic diamine template. Using 1,8-diaminooctane, a cobalt phosphate zeotype, Co6(PO4)4 7H2O,with 20 membered ring channel along with a mixture of open-framework zinc-cobalt phosphates Co-Zn-HPO4, and Co3(HPO4)2(2OH). Using ethylene diamine as template, two zinc substituted cobalt phosphate phases were isolated. One phase has 1,2 diaminoethane dication in the 16 MR channel and the other phase resembles adamite phase. The isolated compounds exhibit high thermal stability and interesting structural features.
