Chiral N-alkoxyphthalimides can be produced via a Mitsunobu reaction. Subsequent reaction with hydrazine can release a chiral N-alkoxylamine (NH2OR*). The reaction of the chiral N-alkoxylamine with an acid chloride to produce an asymmetric hydroxamate will be discussed. Use of these asymmetric hydroxamates in synthetic schemes will be addressed.
