132 Kinetic Studies of Transition Metal Ion Assisted C-C and C-H Bond Dissociation in the Gas Phase

Rate constants for the low energy Ni+ assisted dissociative reaction of organic molecules have
been acquired under jet cooled conditions in the gas phase.  The energies used to initiate the
dissociative reactions of various precursor complex ions are well below that required to cleave sigma
bonds in isolated organic molecules.  The rate constants acquired for the isotopic variants yield
mechanistic and dynamic detail of the reaction coordinate.  These measurements are carried out
in a unique instrument and represent the first of their kind.
