Synthetic macrocycles with mixed amide/amine functionalities bind anions in a variety of fashions. Some hosts encircle, some encapsulate, while others present nicely oriented folded pockets for their targets. This presentation will provide a foray through a series of anionic hosts of different topologies and dimensions with possibly some surprises along the way.
