294 A Unimolecular Model for a Mechanism of Assisted-Threading/Dethreading of a Macrocycle with a Polymer Chain

This presentation will overview work within our group on the independent preparation of both a conformationally dynamic chain compound and an exclusively self-entangled [1]rotaxane. These compounds were shown to reversibly and controllably interconvert under appropriate conditions. The reversible entanglement/disentanglement is put forward to be a unimolecular model for the key step in a bimolecular mechanism of assisted-threading of a proposed “easy-thread” macrocycle.
