During the last few years the scientific community has become very interested in the construction of coordination oligo- and polymers based on the self-assembly of metal cations and appropriate multifunctional ligands. Discrete molecules having cavities for the inclusion of guest molecules and porous materials can be obtained in this way, having potential applications in catalysis, for the storage and purification of gaseous materials, molecular recognition, etc. Carboxylic acids are among the ligands, which have been applied most successfully so far, but reports concerning dithiocarbamates are rare.

We are interested in the construction of macrocyclic and microporous systems based on diorganotin(IV) carboxylates and dithiocarbamates, and have prepared a number of complexes having 0D, 1D, 2D and 3D structures. In this conference our most relevant contributions to this subject are presented.
