77 Dimerization of Di-Tert-Butyltin Dihydride Catalyzed by Iron Complexes and Photochemical Reactivity of Iron Distannanes: CpFe(CO)2tBu2SntBu2R, (R=Cl, OMe)

The photochemical and thermal treatment of tBu2SnH2 in the presence of catalytic amounts of [(h5-C5H5)Fe(CO)2CH3] and [(h5-C5H5)Fe(CO)(PPh3)CH3] led to the high yield formation of 1,2-dihydro-tetra-tert-butyldistannane1. The results of the catalytic process will be presented. 1,2-dihydrodistannanes undergoes efficient chlorination to afford 1,2-dichlorotetra-t-butyldistannane which on reaction with (h5-C5H5)Fe(CO)2Na  produces the iron distannane (h5-C5H5)Fe(CO)2tBu2SntBu2Cl by salt elimination in excellent yield.    The photolysis of iron distannanes (h5-C5H5)Fe(CO)2tBu2SntBu2R, (R=Cl, OMe) in an hydrocarbon solvent afforded donor-stabilized bis(stannylene)iron complexes.
