I received my Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry under the direction of Professor Gary Eiceman in 1986. After one year of postdoctoral research at the US Department of Energy, I started my career in industry. During the past 20+ years, I have worked at various technical/program management capacities at three segments of industry:

  1. Environmental Analytical Research/Contract Laboratory (not for profit/commercial lab)
  2. Chemical Industry/Bulk Pharmaceutical Company (private, for profit)
  3. Standard Setting Organization for Pharmaceutical Industry (private-not for profit)

The lessons learned during the graduate studies in Dr. Eiceman’s Research Lab as well his advice and mentoring during this time and my long career are briefly discussed. The career opportunities and challenges from a personal perspective are also presented. Furthermore, Dr. Eiceman’s support, guidance, and collaboration are acknowledged.
